I am passionate about being creative. I love to design and craft unique things.
I got my start in art making while studying at the University of New Mexico. My course work focused on Photography, Small Metal Construction, and Film. I graduated with degrees in Art Studio and Film Theory.
After working for several years at mainstream, 9 to 5 jobs, I finally decided to devote the bulk of my time to making Art.
What inspires my work? I'm a huge fan of things handmade, custom made, and out of the norm. I strive to make things that you can't find elsewhere. I love the idea of independent artists being able to support themselves by practicing their craft.
My metal work generally seems to fall into one of two categories; modern, simple, pieces with clean lines, and warm, organic pieces with a focus on natural asymmetrical forms. These two styles are quite contrary but I find I am drawn to both.
I like my work to have interior spaces, objects inside of objects. I like to create dimension and moveable parts. Most recently I have been incorporating the technique of inlay in many of my pieces.
I work primarily with silver and use other metals as accents. I often use copper in my work because of it's ability to take patinas. It can take a wide range of patina colors from black to brown, to green, blue, red, and yellow. I occasionally use stones like turquoise, coral, and red jasper, but I particularly love the challenge of creating contrast and color solely using metal.
I have only recently began making earrings and hope to start working on a line of urban brooches in the near future, so stay tuned!
